Subtle references...

In my writing I like to slip in references to art and music that I like. Call it a Poppy Z Brite habit. I learnt it from her. I feel it adds colour, especially if the references are obscure from the mainstream. I often refer to Sisters of Mercy, Bauhaus, Siouxsie and the Banshees... Bands that people "in the know" are aware of and would appreciate the inclusion to flavour the setting.

Odd moment... And musical musings... and stuff.

Yeah, I'm a fangrrrl. My netbook has a desktop background pic of the Green Man. I was showing one of my colleagues my book covers today when she saw the background pic...

Her words exactly: "Rasputin!"

I just sat there and went: "Eh?"

Well, I'll be damned. There's no way this 50+ Afrikaans woman would know have known Jack about this.

But other news, I finally saw Rammstein on Wednesday. They totally rocked Cape Town. Can now say I've ticked off one item on my list…

Another one bites the dust...

Well, I've done it. Just shy of the witching hour on February 6 I finished my novel I'm submitting to Angry Robot for its open door month. Now, to leave it lying fallow, for two weeks while I revise something else for a literary agent, before the revisions on Inkarna start.

Dunno if musicians feel the same when they lay down that last track, because the real work is still coming when I start my hunt for gremlins to polish the manuscript... and I'm feeling oddly empty, floaty…
