Hah! Artslink took the piece after all, so the guest column I wrote about heavy music and my recent experiences watching Rammstein live in SA for the first time... with honourable mentions to my other favourites, past and present (including APHND) is live: http://www.artlink.co.za/news_article.htm?contentID=26681
So this appeared not only in the lifestyle section of a national newspaper here in…Continue
My guest column about metal, past and present, the recent Rammstein show, and the fact that one is never too old unless the music becomes too loud, is appearing in the Sunday Independent this weekend.
And of course APHND and Seventh Void get honorary mentions for contemporary music that moves me...
I'll be submitting the piece to an arts and culture site on Monday and will post the link here once it goes live. That's if they like it enough. If not, I'll stick it on my…Continue
Well, I can report now that I've been practicing my bass now for almost three weeks solid. I have a tentative band room arranged and have started putting out feelers for musos to jam with once my six-month isolation period is up (end-June). This is scary and cool... because I'm finally doing something for myself and not just talking about it anymore.
I have lost the feeling in my fingerpads of my left hand now that the skin is hardening. Kinda creepy but cool at the same…Continue
Yeah, I'm a fangrrrl. My netbook has a desktop background pic of the Green Man. I was showing one of my colleagues my book covers today when she saw the background pic...
Her words exactly: "Rasputin!"
I just sat there and went: "Eh?"
Well, I'll be damned. There's no way this 50+ Afrikaans woman would know have known Jack about this.
But other news, I finally saw Rammstein on Wednesday. They totally rocked Cape Town. Can now say I've ticked off one item on my list…Continue
Well, I've done it. Just shy of the witching hour on February 6 I finished my novel I'm submitting to Angry Robot for its open door month. Now, to leave it lying fallow, for two weeks while I revise something else for a literary agent, before the revisions on Inkarna start.
Dunno if musicians feel the same when they lay down that last track, because the real work is still coming when I start my hunt for gremlins to polish the manuscript... and I'm feeling oddly empty, floaty…Continue
Perhaps spurred on by my discovery of APHND, I've been looking back in my music collection to the albums and/or musicians that meant a lot to me when I was a terrible teenager/young adult... That was before I became (for a few years) a boring middle-class, middle-income suburban nightmare... Which I'm luckily cured of (and my poor colleagues have to put up with my multiply pierced, drab tattooed self). Okay, granted, I do have a penchant for purple...
And my "terrible" taste…Continue
As always, from December 28 through to NYE, I get very introspective. While I don't believe in making new year's resolutions, I do believe it's important to take a step back and re-evaluate where I'm headed. NYE seems a good a time as any.
Three Goals for 2011:
1) Stop talking about it and get my bass under hand again to collaborate with a friend of mine on a version of Paranoid, and get our gothic metal chick project going. Why? Because we can and it's fun. And I'm…Continue
